“Foursquare” is a biblical term that described the altar in the Book of Exodus (27:1), the courtyard of the Lord’s temple (Ezekiel 40:47), and Heaven itself (Revelation 21:16). It represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established, and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the Gospel is also expressed by the verse, Hebrews 13:8, displayed in all Foursquare churches proclaiming, “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday and today and forever.” The four squares symbolize Jesus Christ as The Savior, The Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, The Healer, and The Soon-Coming King.
The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, or simply known as Foursquare, was founded in Los Angeles, California, by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923. Since that time our denomination has grown from one local fellowship to nearly 2000 churches in the United States and Canada. The Foursquare Church has also been established in over 110 countries around the world. These numbers are rapidly increasing.
As a denominational family, we have no desire to compete or compare. We rejoice for every group of believers which honors the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross. ICFG is a member of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) and as a Pentecostal Church is affiliated with the Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA) and the Pentecostal World Conference.
